London: Meetings on PHILOSOPHY AND REVOLUTION"The head of this emancipation is philosophy, its heart the proletariat. Philosophy cannot realize itself without the transcendence of the proletariat, and the proletariat cannot transcend itself without the realization of philosophy." - Marx 1844PHILOSOPHY AND REVOLUTION Today's state of permanent war has exposed the inhumanity of the entire social, political and economic system upon which it is based. Can the growing opposition to the war drive's issue a new challenge to the existence of capitalism-imperialism? What kind of social relations represent an alternative to this system? To meet the challenge of our times and work out theoretical preparation for revolution, historically and well as philosophically, you are invited to participate with us in a series of discussion meetings around_Philosophy and Revolution, From Hegel to Sartre, and from Marx to Mao_ by Raya Dunayevskaya. The very topic 'Philosophy and Revolution' often meets with opposition, from both philosophers and socialists. There are many philosophers in today who believe that philosophy can has no special relationship to socialism. Similarly there are many socialists they say socialism has no special relationship to philosophy and is a diversion from the 'real struggle'. In contrast to these views which plague English socialism Marxist-Humanists argue that the fight for social revolution is inseparable from philosophy. There can he no realization of philosophy without the realization of socialism, nor can socialism be achieved without the help of philosophy. To explore such questions we are holding a series these meetings on_Philosophy and Revolution_. We will start from the French Revolution and explore with new eyes the work of Hegel, whose ideas Marx considered "the source of all dialectic", to Through the 1848 and 1871 revolutions and Marx's own new continent of thought. As well as 20th Century with not only World War One and Two, but the Afro-Asian Revolutions and the new forces that emerged such as rank and file workers, the Black Dimension and Womens Liberation.Syllabus for _Philosophy and Revolution_ Classes Class One Class Two Class Three Class Four Class Five Required reading: News and Letters Committee Plenum perspectives for 2003-2004, at: www.newsandletters.org or "News & Letters" July issue.Contact the London Corresponding Committee to find out more about the meeting times and places:BCM Box 3514, London, England WC IN 3XX Internet: http://members.aol.com/THEHOBGOBL/ |
